A Career in Childcare

Are you patient with children and would like a job in which you could really make a difference? If so, then childcare might be for you.

Looking after children is both a responsibility and an honour. A career in childcare is hard work and you must be focused, alert, creative and on the go constantly but the rewards and your sense of achievement can be enormous.

If you would like to work with babies and young children aged 0 to 5, then the Children and Young People’s Workforce (CYPW) qualification could be the ideal start - Level 2. It is aimed at anyone aged 16 years and above and will give you the skills and experience to develop your career in a wide range of childcare settings.

JACE offers the following qualifications:

  • Intermediate  Apprenticeship (Level 2)  for the Children and Young People’s Workforce.
  • Advanced Apprenticeship (Level 3) in the Early Years Educator (EYE).

The Intermediate Apprenticeship is suitable if you work, or are about to start work under supervision / in a supporting role within a setting. This could be a day nursery, crèche, pre-school, children's centre, hospital, primary care and community based service.  It is also relevant if you are a nanny or a child-minder. The qualification takes a minimum of 12 months to complete and you can apply to JACE all year round. If eligible, you are free to begin at any time of the year, that best suits you.

The Advanced Apprenticeship is suited to those already working in a childcare setting involving “face-to-face” roles with children and families; both supervising or working unsupervised. This programme generally takes 18 months to complete.
