Information Technology Qualification (ITQ)

Information Technology now forms part of many people's lives for all age groups.

Who is this qualification good for?

The IT Qualification is ideal for both new learners and the experienced computer user.

How is the qualification structured?

You can gain an Information Technology (IT) unit on its own as each unit has its specific area of competence.  For example if you are competent at sending emails (as long as you can produce the evidence gained from a real purpose) you could gain Unit 207 Emails Level 2.

Unlike many NVQ's, with ITQ you do not have to complete the assessment in the workplace, but evidence must come  from IT activities, undertaken for a specific purpose.  Units apart frrom mandatory uniits can be accredited by prior achievement.

The whole Information Technology qualification can be gained at Levels 1, 2 or 3, each level being made up of a number different units.

There are 2 types of units in each level:

  • the mandatory units which you must complete for a full qualification
  • optional units where you choose a number of units according to your personal needs

A further exciting opportunityy within the ITQ is the ability to gain units at Levels 1, 2 or 3 all in the same qualification.  This means if you are working towards Level 2 and gain a Level 3 unit this will count towards Level 3 ITQ when you progress to that level.

Each unit has a summary that describes what the unit is about.

  • Skills and techniques
  • Knowledge and understanding

Flexibility explained

Flexibility of the ITQ

The ITQ is made up of a number of units : Email, Word Processing, Spreadsheet etc.

The level of the qualification is decided by you but determined by the level of the mandatory unit taken.

Next you choose your option units (here only 50% of the option units can be from different levels) you are now combining option units from different levels to make up your NVQ.  This is known as Rules of  Combination.
