Apprenticeships through JACE Training
What is an Apprenticeship?
- An Apprenticeship is a training method whereby you combine learning, training and real work.
- If you are 16 years or above you are eligible to join this programme (subject to minimum entry requirements).
- An Apprenticeship is a nationally recognised framework or programme of specific skills and occupational qualifications, e.g. childcare, playwork, business administration etc.
This learning path can open doors to a bright new future, and although they can be demanding they are rewarding. There are lots of different types of apprenticeships to choose from depending on the the career path you want to take. Apprenticeships train you in the skills of the employment you are seeking such as Childcare, Information Technology, Business Administration.

How do they work?
An Apprentice would work alongside an experienced employee to learn job specific skills.
Would I work every day?
An Apprentice would generally work four days a week and have time off for training for one day. The training would usually take place at one of the JACE Training Centres and also now online using the JACE Learning Platform (JLP) our own e-learning application.
Do I have to pay for my Apprenticeship?
No the National Apprenticeship Servcie will pay for the cost of your training and your employer will pay you a salary. The cost of your training is dependent on your age.

Do I get paid?
Yes as an Apprentice you will get paid the national minimum allowance (currently £2.50 per hour).
Do I get holidays?
Yes as an Apprentice you will receive holidays in accordance with the company policy. This is generally 20 days per year.
What happens after my Apprenticeship?
When you Apprenticeship comes to an end you have the opportunity to continue your learning and move onto an Advanced Apprenticeship.
Moving on to an Advanced Apprenticeship Framework
Moving on to an Advance Apprenticeship will be for you if you have already gained level 2 and are employed.
What does it include?
- Diploma in Children and Young People's Workforce
- Functional Mathmatics Level 2
- Functional English Level 2
In addition you will gain Paediatric First Aid and the Induction Standards if they have not been previously covered at Level 2.
Advanced Apprentices generally work on their own initiative in the workplace e.g. Childcare Practitioner, Playwork leader or Childminder. Office Administrator, Customer Service or Receptionist.
Apprenticeships include the following :
- An appropriate work-based qualification such as a National Vocational Qualification (NVQ) at either Level 2 or Level 3.
- Either Key Skills or Functional Skills (Maths and English).
- A technical qualification such as City & Guilds.
What is expected of me?
To be an Advanced Apprentice you must be a reliable and responsible person committed both to your work and the requirements of your training programme.
You should be able to sustain a work and training programme that will be used to analyse work for the completion of your apprenticeship.
Off the job training is essential for the Advanced Apprenticeship. You must continue to attend workshops but generally twice a month is sufficient.
JACE has its own e-learning application - JACE Learning Platform (JLP)
JACE offers assistance to your learning via their JLP and the support of an assessor. This is in addition to attending occasional essential workshops such as First Aid (for Childcare).

The Government aims to develop a competent, knowledgeable, well qualified workforce with higher and better skills and expertise.
Now more than ever is the right time to improve your qualifications.
Intermediate Level
Working towards work-based learning qualifications such as NVQ Level 2 and Key Skills.
These provide the skills you need for your chosen career and allow entry to an Advanced Level Apprenticeship.
Advanced Level
Working towards work-based learning qualifications such as NVQ Level 3 and Key Skills.
For this programme you should ideally have five GCSEs (Grade C or above) or have completed an Intermedicate Level Apprenticeship.
Higher Level
Working towards work-based learning qualifications such as NVQ Level 4 and in some cases, a knowledge-based qualification such as a Foundation degree.

JACE Learning Platform
JACE has its own JACE Learning Platform (JLP) which is a further learning tool for you to make use of. You will be able to complete parts of your training using this online programme and liaise direct with your tutor/assessor. You can communicate through the JLP if you have any questions or need any additional support. This could help to speed up your progress through your course.
